Description
La Estancia names the rancho behind this single-estate Tequila Ocho. The Camarena family makes it at La Alteña from fully mature highland agave grown in Jalisco. An extended rest in oak develops the extra añejo's barrel character while keeping agave central to the liquid. The tequila is bottled at 40% ABV.
Cooked agave opens the nose, accompanied by vanilla bean, toasted oak, dried fig, and cocoa. Baked agave and caramel carry the palate. Cinnamon, orange peel, and dark chocolate unfold around them. The long, warming finish returns to sweet roasted agave, with oak spice and tobacco leaf still present.
Let a neat pour open for a few minutes in a snifter or tequila glass. A few drops of cool water bring agave sweetness forward. It also suits an añejo Old Fashioned with agave nectar and chocolate bitters.
