Description

Wild Agave cupreata, locally called Chino Silvestre, is the sole agave in this La Luna mezcal. The plants grow in Mexico's rugged landscapes. La Luna's mezcaleros follow traditional practices from harvest through distillation, including a 120-hour roast. That extended roasting is one concrete detail behind the liquid's smoky character.

Earth and forest aromas arrive first, followed by subtle smoke and wildflower notes. The palate carries a fuller smokiness, balanced with the agave's natural sweetness. Earthy flavors and a little minerality sit beneath it. Green herbs and citrus zest add brighter details, giving the smoke and sweetness a fresh counterpoint.

Pour a small measure into a copita and sip slowly. Fresh orange slices and a pinch of sal de gusano can accompany the mezcal.

How to drink

La Luna Mezcal Chino Silvestre is best enjoyed as a sipping mezcal to fully appreciate its intricate flavors. Here are some serving suggestions to enhance your experience:

  1. Neat: Pour a small amount into a copita, a traditional mezcal glass, and sip it slowly. Let the spirit evolve on your palate, revealing its layers of flavor.
  2. With Orange Slices and Sal de Gusano: Accompany your mezcal with slices of fresh orange and a pinch of Sal de Gusano (a traditional Oaxacan condiment made with salt, chili, and crushed agave worms). The citrus and salt enhance the mezcal's flavors.
  3. Mezcal Cocktails: While La Luna Mezcal Chino Silvestre is exceptional on its own, it can also be used in mezcal cocktails like a smoky Mezcal Negroni or a refreshing Mezcal Margarita.
