Description

Small-batch production and traditional methods form the starting point for Xicaru Anejo. Barrel aging follows, introducing oak character to the mezcal's smoky agave foundation. The producer takes its name from the Zapotec word for “beautiful.” Here, the attention is on the meeting of agave and wood.

Gold with amber highlights, the liquid opens with earthy roasted agave, mesquite and campfire aromas. Vanilla and oak become more apparent as it rests in the glass. The palate is full-bodied and silky. Smoke remains present, balanced by sweet, creamy vanilla and oak notes. Agave and barrel influence share the glass without the smoke disappearing.

Sip at room temperature from a snifter, or serve over one large ice cube. For a Mezcal Old Fashioned, combine with sugar and bitters, stir until chilled and add orange peel.
