Description

Amatitán Valley agave begins Arriesgado Reposado's production. After slow cooking in a traditional masonry oven, it is extracted by hand using Canoa y Mazo: a wooden trough and mallet. The tequila then rests for three months in French oak barrels. Bottled at 47% ABV, it takes on a pale golden amber color with a straw-colored edge.

Roasted agave leads the nose before vanilla cream, fresh coconut and banana emerge. The palate is rich and oily. Sweet roasted agave carries vanilla cream and coconut, with banana pudding and spiced pepper adding detail. Pepper warms the finish while vanilla lingers, followed by a clean return to agave.

Pour into a wide-mouthed glass at room temperature and allow a minute before tasting. A few drops of water open the coconut and pepper notes. A large ice cube softens the finish.

How to drink

Neat: Pour into a wide-mouthed glass and allow a minute to open; the French oak vanilla and roasted agave integrate noticeably at room temperature.

With a Drop of Water: A few drops open up the coconut and spiced pepper layers that can sit compressed on first pour.

On the Rocks: A single large ice cube softens the pepper finish while keeping the vanilla and oily agave core intact.

Cocktails: Works well in a tequila Old Fashioned with agave nectar and aromatic bitters, or as the base in a Paloma with fresh grapefruit juice.

Pair With: Grilled meats, roasted corn preparations, or dark chocolate play well against the pepper-and-vanilla balance.
