Description
Locally harvested blue agave forms the base of El Viejito Añejo. The plants grow in the Jalisco Highlands, with its cooler climate and mineral-rich volcanic soils. Founded in 1937, the family distillery produces under NOM 1107. At least one year in oak develops the añejo's barrel character. It is bottled at 40% ABV.
Roasted agave and cracked pepper greet the nose, followed by fresh citrus and an undertone of caramel. Oak and vanilla lead on the palate. Caramel sweetness follows, while earthy agave remains beneath the wood. The texture is velvety. A warm, lingering finish leaves gentle oak spice and a final trace of vanilla.
Let a neat pour rest briefly in a copita or snifter. For a Tequila Old Fashioned, stir with a little agave syrup and orange bitters, then add a wide orange peel.
