Description

Papalometl, also known as Agave Cupreata, is the plant behind Del Maguey's Wild Papalome from San Pedro Teozacoal in Mexico. The name Papalome comes from the Nahuatl word for butterfly. Traditional production methods connect this artisanal mezcal to the village and its agave heritage.

Smoky agave and earthy minerals shape the nose, with subtle sweetness underneath. Leather becomes more distinct on the palate, alongside slate and a little black olive. A meaty, savory quality adds weight to those mineral notes. The finish lasts moderately long and begins with sweetness reminiscent of dark dried cherries, offering a fruit counterpoint to the savory palate.

Pour neat at room temperature into a mezcal glass or small wine glass. Sip slowly. Dark chocolate, nuts or artisanal cheeses can accompany the pour and give you another way to explore its flavors.
