Description

A village partnership in Oaxaca's San Juan del Rio region is behind Código 1530 Mezcal Ancestral Joven. Agave is roasted in underground pits and crushed with stone tahonas. The mezcal remains unaged, keeping the agave's sweet, earthy and mineral character at the center of the tasting. These traditional production steps connect the liquid to the region where it is made.

Honey and earth open the nose, followed by tobacco and a saline note. The palate brings vanilla, cantaloupe and bright minerality. Hazelnut adds a rounded, nutty element alongside the fruit. Sweetness, earth and mineral notes share the sip.

Serve neat in a mezcal or tasting glass and let it breathe briefly. It can also anchor a Mezcal Old Fashioned with sugar, bitters and orange peel.
